I grew up with the yellow plastic containers many Nigerians term “Jerry can”. The Jerry Can was an integral part of growing up in Nigeria in the 90’s and early 2000’s and it uses as a product ranged from fetching drinking water from bore-holes and streams to, storing of Palm oil, palm wine to fuel. As a core component of maintaining the running of the home, The Jerry Can metaphorically serves as a symbol of abundance and the throne upon which the women, who is termed in most African cultures as the Guardian of the home.
